Starting today, and for the rest of the Mondays this month, we are going to highlight our “Cunningham Cares about the Community” Campaign. We challenged our employees to donate to a non-profit impacted by COVID-19 and to explain why they chose that charity. Cunningham matched their donation. The response from the staff was so overwhelming, we will share the responses over a series of emails. Matching Mondays, here we go…
I chose the Sacramento Food Band & Family Services in hopes that my donation would help aid families in need during the coronavirus pandemic.

I chose Habitat because I know how hard they work and how great of an impact they have on the families they help due to my personal experience working for the organization last year. They currently cannot host volunteer groups due to COVID so I know that the staff and crew leaders are working twice as hard to make up for the lack of help.

COVID is unfortunately creating added pressure on school budgets. Our daughter attends Deterding Elementary in the San Juan School District. Only a portion of the school's arts and music education is paid by the district. DREAM, our school Parent Teacher Organization, typically hosts fundraisers to raise the balance. However, those fundraisers are unlikely to occur this year due to COVID restrictions. We are donating to the school to support the funding for DREAM to help ensure all the students at our school continue to have the resources for education, arts and music. Thank you Cunningham for matching our contribution and supporting the students at our school!

I chose the Sacramento Region Disaster Relief Fund (a fund at the Sacramento Region Community Foundation) because it was specifically setup to help local charities and organizations that have been impacted by COVID 19. To date, they have “awarded over $840,500 to 118 organizations that provide vital services within the Sacramento region — including emergency assistance, food security, healthcare, and childcare — and face severe operational challenges and non-recoverable expenses as a result of this pandemic.”

I donated to the WHO’s COVID-19 fund to help try to get us out of this mess and back to some kind of normalcy.

I chose to make a donation to Suicide Prevention of Yolo County because as much as I feel I have been affected by the pandemic, I personally know several others with pre-existing anxiety and depression who have it so much worse. Friends and family who have been forced to stop working are really feeling the pressure and I’m grateful that I’ve only been inconvenienced at most. I’m fortunate I am able to make this donation with Cunningham!
